Marriage in Thailand — your questions
How far in advance should we start?
At least 3 months. If your embassy in Thailand issues the document, it takes about 1–2 weeks. If it must come from your home country, allow 4–12 weeks.
Do we need to go to Bangkok?
The foreign partner usually needs to visit their embassy in Bangkok in person to sign the freedom-to-marry document. Translation, MFA legalization and registration are handled by us — and you register together in Hua Hin.
Why does Group B cost more?
Countries in Group B have more complex legalization requirements, need sworn translators and involve extra steps in the home country.
I'm divorced. What else do I need?
A legalized divorce certificate, processed the same way as your freedom-to-marry document. Note that under Thai law, a Thai woman whose previous marriage ended must generally wait 310 days before remarrying, unless an exception applies — ask us about your situation.
Is a Thai marriage recognized abroad?
A properly registered Thai marriage is generally recognized internationally once translated and legalized — which is included in our package.
What about the Apostille Convention?
Thailand's membership takes effect on 28 February 2027. After that, documents from member countries may only need an apostille instead of multiple legalization steps. Until then, full legalization is still required — we'll advise the right route for your timing.
What is the marriage booklet?
Every package client receives a free leather-bound marriage booklet engraved with both names — a lovely keepsake of your big day.
